Money makes the world go around… not only the real world but virtual worlds, too. Robux (R$) is the primary currency on the Roblox platform, and it’s mainly acquired through paid transactions or selling your player-created content. Just like earning real-life money, earning Robux can be a challenge – a challenge which many players face head-on to strike it rich on Roblox.

How to earn Robux

There are four ways to earn Robux:

  • Be a member of Builders Club
  • Buy Robux directly
  • Develop games
  • Sell content in the Roblox catalog

Now I’ll walk you through each of these options.

Earn Robux through Builders Club

Members of Builders Club, the Roblox premium subscription service, receive a stipend of Robux each day, plus a R$100 signing bonus. This is a relatively slow method of accruing your Robux, but it is a nice bonus that Roblox gives you for being a member.

Members of Roblox’s “Outrageous” Builders Club get R$60 free each day, or just over R$1,500 per month.

Purchase Robux directly

As you may have expected, it is possible to just go ahead and purchase Robux. The platform accepts all major payment types – credit and debit cards, PayPal, and PaySafe cards to name a few – and Robux can be purchased in bundles. As is typical with most microtransactional currencies, the more you buy, the better value you get.

When buying the cheapest R$ bundle, each $1USD gets you around R$80, whereas the largest bundle gets you around R$112 per $1USD.

Develop a game

The best way to earn Robux is to create and monetize your own gaming content. There are two ways to do this: create a game and monetize it; or sell hats, gear and custom clothing through the Roblox catalog.

Earning Robux through game monetization is perhaps the most lucrative method since a popular Roblox game can earn its developer thousands or millions of Robux. A great example of this is Mad Paintball by MAD STUDIO. Although their game is free-to-play, there is an integrated option to purchase “Rubies” in exchange for Robux, which can be used to unlock extra weapons and other game items.

Mad Paintball, by MAD STUDIO, lets players exchange up to R$4,200 for the in-game currency, Rubies.

It is not immediately clear exactly how much of a cut Roblox takes from microtransactions – they do not openly state this – but by looking at the exchange rate of R$ to $USD ($.0035/R$ or R$100,000 for $350 USD) it appears that Roblox takes its cut before any money reaches developers, at the time Robux are purchased.

Although you can monetize and earn Robux from your games for free, to join Roblox DevEx and convert your Robux to real cash you must be a member of “Outrageous Builders Club,” which costs $19.95 per month. The expense is worth it if you’re serious about being a Roblox game developer.

Sell items in the catalog

Selling items in the Roblox catalog gives players a chance to earn some Robux in exchange for designing and selling t-shirts, shirts, and pants, which can be bought by other players and used to customize their Roblox character.

With over 22,000 users adding this to their favorites, it is easy to see just how powerful a popular clothing item can be in terms of earning potential – not bad for an unoriginal design!

In fact, artistic talent does not seem to be an overriding requirement. The nature of the Roblox platform and its popularity with kids means that brand identity, pop culture, and humor seem to drive popularity in the catalog.

Creating t-shirts and pants is relatively easy. To do this, you need to be a member of Builders Club – the most basic level at $5.95 is sufficient – and you are then able to sell your custom clothing and keep 70% of the profit by visiting the Develop section of the Roblox website.

In addition to selling your custom-made shirts, t-shirts, and pants, if you own any hats or gear, you may also be able to sell these. This is a great way to earn some Robux if you bought something a while ago which has since gone off of general sale, or if you have an older account with items that have appreciated in value over the years. A Builders Club membership is also a requirement to do this, but you keep 100% of the Robux as you are not selling custom content.

If you have an item that was sold as “LimitedU” (items that were limited by quantity) and has a unique serial number – such as 1337, 666, 123 – you will almost always be able to sell your item for three to four times more than the lowest asking price.

If you have used the Roblox platform in the past and are considering returning, it might be worth checking out your inventory to see if any of the items you own have matured with age!
